Dorna Complex Mamaia

Dorna Mamaia was renovated in 2022 and looks really modern. I loved every minute of our vacation, especially how the front desk staff helped with all our requests and made the stay nicer. We’ll definitely come back.

The location worked well for us. There are restaurants and bars close by, a small shop just a few minutes away for snacks, drinks, and beach things, and the bus station is a two-minute walk. Parking was included in the room price. We’d read that the area could be noisy, but our room seemed well soundproofed and we had no trouble with it. They were also getting a playroom ready for little kids while we were there. Our child loved playing in it during the last two days. Miss Oana at reception helped us so much when we arrived, and we’re very grateful to her. We’re really happy we picked this hotel and would recommend it. The hotel has recently had a major refurbishment, and you can see it throughout. The entrance and reception are beautiful and peaceful, with everything in its place, nice accessories, and music. It felt like a wonderful welcome. Our room was spotless and big enough for two adults and a child. It had a balcony, air conditioning, a hair dryer, and a small fridge with a tiny freezer that was enough for us. Breakfast was included, with lots to choose from, and the food was fresh. I liked that they use local Romanian producers for things such as honey. The one drawback was the coffee machine queue when it got busy. There are two pools, one for adults and one for children. The adults’ pool was quite cold, while the kids’ pool was warm enough. The children’s pool could use some shade because it gets so hot in summer that it’s hard to stay in the water. The beach is a five-minute walk away, and only hotel guests can use it. We had two sun loungers and towels included throughout our stay, which was great, since loungers can be really expensive elsewhere. A few things at the beach could be better: the bar only took cash, staff could use some basic English and more training, and there were no toilets, so we had to walk back to our room each time.

The pool was nice, and there was some kind of entertainment each evening, but the accommodation was awful. We had to put on the sheets and set up the extra bed ourselves, even though we’d paid for it and the hotel knew we’d need it. The real horror was what we found beneath the main bed’s sheets. See the pictures. At 520 RON a night, never again. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

The free pool was clean and quiet, and we had a good time there. We also got free sunbeds on the beach, which was a plus. The hotel is near the beach, about a ten-minute walk, and the area is quiet. The room felt like it was from the 2000s, wasn’t modern, and had no bathroom extractor fan. Cleaning was okay. Food was alright, but some menu items weren’t available, and service was a big problem: we waited a long time, things came late, and staff often forgot our requests. Breakfast was okay too, but we went at 8 pm and were told it would be served after 9 pm. The night before, we’d been told breakfast ran from 07:30 to 10:00 pm. We paid 400 lei, about 80€, for the room. Given all that, the stay was okay, but not great.
