Hotel Marie

I enjoyed my three nights here in August 2023, and as a budget traveler I’d recommend it to other international visitors. It’s a no-nonsense hotel, with only minor flaws for a 3-star place at such a low price. Parking is limited but more or less supervised, and you can get coffee in the lobby. The terrace is free to use but isn’t serviced, so we had a beer and a smoke there in the evenings. You can also pick up dinner at the very nearby, well-stocked 24-hour supermarket and eat it on the terrace. The beach and main tourist boardwalk are a short walk away, with shops, bars and eateries, kids’ attractions, and an entrance to the funicular. Rooms have a minibar, and the TV has plenty of channels, including CNN and BBC World.

The quality and price balance is excellent, and the rooms are comfortable, though the standard ones are a bit small. The hotel is very close to Mamaia’s seaside, restaurants, night clubs, beaches, and markets. Staff are courteous, professional, and always ready to assist. For me, it already deserves 4 stars. The furniture is quite old, so refurbishing the rooms would give the hotel a more modern look. An elevator would help, especially for anyone staying on the third floor with babies and strollers. Restaurant service would be another welcome addition. It’s a very nice three-star hotel with very good prices.

This is a cheap hotel from the old communist era that’s been renovated. The rooms and facilities were clean, and the receptionist was nice and accommodating. Housekeeping came after 9AM while we were at the beach, though if you stay in the room when you’re feeling down, the vacuum cleaner is so loud it sounds like a jet engine 😅. The hotel is also beside Mamaia’s main road, so nighttime traffic can be loud enough to keep you up, or it might not bother you.

The one bright spot was a receptionist who was kind and helped sort things out with the parking attendant, who didn’t speak English. Parking itself was a hassle, and the attendant seemed to expect a beer for finding a space. The bathroom smelled awful, the bed squeaked, and the sheets were yellow. There wasn’t even free coffee or breakfast. This place is a dump. Avoid it.
