Hotel Nevis Wellness and Spa

The massage was relaxing and great, and the staff were nice to us. We’d booked a bachelorette package with massage, spa, and pool/jacuzzi access. At the hotel, there was nobody at reception at first. When the receptionist came back, she wasn’t sure whether towels and slippers were included and sent us to the relaxation room, but no one was there. We returned to an empty reception again. Eventually she called someone to bring towels, but said slippers weren’t included because we didn’t have a room. For a four-star hotel, I don’t think guests should have to beg for towels. And surely they can afford slippers for spa guests.

The staff were especially friendly and helpful, and the location is easy to reach. The city centre is a true 20-minute walk away, with Lidl and Penny just around the corner. I only stayed overnight and left early the next morning, so I can’t comment on the wellness and spa facilities or the restaurant. The room furniture, bathroom, and cleanliness were all at the standard I’d expect from a four-star hotel.

The staff are lovely, check-in is smooth, and the prices seem reasonable for a hotel with a spa. The spa is fine, nothing special but nothing terrible, and breakfast is a solid 4/5. The neighbourhood feels safe, and you’re about 1 km from the centre. I’d take the river walk, which is five minutes longer but prettier. A taxi costs under 10 lei, around €2. The rooms feel a bit awkward and mildly depressing, with old furniture and carpets and the odd dead mosquito on the walls. The fridge in my room made noise all day and night, which got irritating. The bathroom wasn’t awful, but felt more like one in an average-priced apartment than a four-star spa hotel. The rooftop restaurant was disappointing. The food tasted reheated and was very average. I feel bad saying that because the service was great and our waitress was so kind and welcoming. I’d rate the atmosphere 3/5, service 5/5, and food 2/5. For me, this is a three-star hotel at best, and I suspect the spa is why it has a four-star rating. The stay was OK, and I might come back, but if you want the spa, go for it. If that’s not important to you, I’d look elsewhere.

The food was excellent, and even with the restaurant quite full, they quickly sorted out fast, non-spicy food for the kids. The pool was fun for them too, with warm water, a good size, and a shallow depth. From the seventh floor, the view was unbeatable, especially at dinner as the sun set over the city. The location is downtown-ish, close to the tram and Oradea’s ring road. Inside, it was quiet, with strong AC. The staff were friendly and the overall experience was good, but a few things needed maintenance: the light switch, noisy fridge, and leaky shower. Nothing was unusable, though. I’d give it 4.9/5, probably 5/5 after some maintenance.
