Teleferic Grand Hotel

The restaurant and bar team deserve a special mention. The International food was excellent, beautifully presented, and had a modern touch. The slow-roasted lamb shank and traditional breakfast buffet were fabulous. Teleferic Grand Hotel & Ski Resort is a wonderful place if you want luxury alongside the raw beauty of the Carpathian Mountains. Highly recommended.

I've stayed at ski hotels around the world and visited many resorts, and Teleferic Grand Hotel in Poiana Brasov is right up among my favourites. It feels carefully designed with real understanding and respect for guests. The staff are ultra professional and make you feel like royalty, and the food, drinks, atmosphere, views, quality, and warmth all feel world class. The spa and wellness facilities lived up to expectations. It's easy to find, with plenty of parking, a well-designed ski room, and an excellent ski rental facility in house. This is a new favourite!

At 3000€ for four nights over New Year's, even the least expensive offer, I'd rather go to Austria, where there's actually snow and you don't have manele playing all night. We spent Christmas at Teleferic and found both the food and service mediocre. The trip will probably take seven hours, too. I remember when my friends from Cluj came to Poiana to ski. Not anymore, they're choosing Italy and Austria. I can't wait to see what Poiana is like if a highway connects Bucharest/Constanta with the western border. I got an offer from Austria for seven nights at 2500€ per room, with two meals a day and a ski pass included, at a four-star hotel. The Austrians promised they won't let Guta, Salam or Minune within 2000km of the place.

The hotel and restaurant were perfectly fine, but the staff could do without the attitude. The charges and the after-service are what really need attention. When we booked, the hotel blocked the cost of one night's stay and said it would be refunded upon payment, within 15 days at most. I was told the amount had been released on January 6th, but it still hasn't appeared in my account, and my emails have gone unanswered. My bank says it sees no action from the hotel and thinks they may be waiting for the automatic release, which can take up to 25 business days. We'd asked to settle the bill the night before checkout because we had an early flight. Then, as we were leaving in the morning, they suddenly said they'd forgotten to charge a €30 tax related to changes in legislation, without properly explaining it. We paid so we wouldn't miss our flight. That's why I gave two stars. The after-service is unacceptable, and a business abroad shouldn't hold a significant amount of a customer's money for up to two months, which is what 25 business days effectively means. UPDATE: For the general manager, of course I'll tell potential customers through every available channel that a three-digit amount will stay blocked for over a month, even after they've paid in full and on time. I don't see the hotel taking these reviews seriously. Others have raised the same issue, and otherwise you would have changed your payment provider. I've worked as a travel agent for over 13 years and have never come across a hotel, even one without stars, that holds customers' money this long. The bank's response is clear: your provider simply doesn't bother releasing the amount and waits for the automatic release after 25 business days.
