Hotel Rozmarin

Our stay left us very disappointed and spoiled our first impression of the hotel. We were given a ground-floor room with no balcony and a view of a neighboring building, despite the hotel advertising beautiful views and balconies. Every room costs the same, and booking doesn’t distinguish between rooms with and without balconies. We later saw guests who checked in after us under the same booking conditions get balconies and great views. When we asked at reception to change rooms, we were told none with balconies were available. Asked how rooms were allocated, the receptionist smirked and said the other guests were simply “luckier” than us. I found that answer unprofessional and offensive. It would be understandable if rooms were assigned fairly, for example in arrival order. Instead, it seemed to us that the receptionist personally chose who got a better room, leaving guests feeling unfairly treated. Worse, when giving us our room number, the receptionist never mentioned that the room had no balcony or view. I believe that’s essential information and should always be made clear.

The staff in the restaurant made this a place I wouldn't return to. The young waiters were kind and spoke English, but the older manager and the blonde waitress came across as arrogant and dismissive. The manager even raised his voice and insulted us because we were dancing on a path where we hadn't realized we were disturbing anyone. There was mold in the bathroom, though that felt like a minor issue by comparison. The hotel was being renovated on the outside when we visited, and it doesn't live up to a four-star rating. I can't recommend it.

The views are what stood out most, and the location is great. It was also surprisingly quiet at night. The rooms are basic and dated, though they work fine. Service was okay, but the welcome could have been warmer.

The papanași, a Romanian cottage cheese doughnut with sour cream and blueberry jam, were the highlight of our trip. The food was exceptionally good, and prices felt affordable for tourists, though perhaps a bit expensive for locals. Mr Sorin gave us a massage after a long day exploring the nearby mountains. It needs to be booked ahead, but was well worth it. We loved the mountain views from our room and from the restaurant terrace, especially over a meal or drink. The hotel is only a five-minute walk from Predeal centre, yet it feels like a retreat. The rooms were tidy and comfortable, with good amenities. There's lots of wood throughout, and the restaurant interior is almost entirely wooden. The staff were kind, helpful, and efficient.
