The name Hotel Roman can refer to several different places. The one in Roman, Romania is Hotel Roman by Dumbrava Business Resort, a four-star hotel near Piata Roman Musat and the History Museum. It’s described as good value, with modern, well-appointed rooms, minibars, satellite TV, and premium bedding. Amenities include an indoor pool, full-service spa with massages, facials, sauna and Turkish bath, hot tub, free breakfast buffet and Wi-Fi, garden, terrace, bar/lounge, room service, airport shuttle for an extra charge, and free self-parking. Roman Plaza Restaurant serves international cuisine, and there’s also a snack bar. Check-in is at 2 PM and check-out at 12 PM. Children aged 0-7 stay free, and pets are allowed only as service animals. Other places with similar names include Roman Camp Country House & Restaurant in Scotland, a historic country house hotel with roots going back to the 17th century, and Museum Hotel Antique Roman Palace in Turkey, which is built around ancient Roman ruins and has artifacts and bath remnants. Check the location carefully, since these places offer very different experiences.

We really enjoyed our stay. The location was spot on, the restaurant served very good food, and breakfast was plentiful with lots of options. Our room was huge, with a king bed and a pull-out couch, so two adults and a teenager had plenty of room. The windows blocked the street noise well. The staff were very nice. When a neighbor upstairs played loud music at midnight, reception handled it efficiently. The bathroom was also very large, though a door separating the toilet would make it easier for two people to use the room at once. There were two A/C units, one built into the wall and one mounted on it. We used only the wall-mounted unit because the built-in one seemed to have a slight fumes smell.

The staff provided very good service, and the hotel is right in the town center. Our large, clean room was tastefully furnished and looked out over the square. The lobby was bright and elegant. Breakfast wasn’t included, and the offering was scrambled eggs and coffee. I’d have preferred more choice, or perhaps a buffet.

The included breakfast was a letdown, though the coffee was surprisingly good. The rest of the buffet felt poor quality, almost like leftovers from an earlier event had been reused. The scrambled eggs were especially bad: cold, watery, and an odd bluish color, possibly from being overcooked. Breakfast felt chaotic and badly handled. The property was very clean, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The air conditioning, though, was extremely loud and made an uneven, disruptive noise, possibly because its filter was clogged.

We had a pleasant two-night stay at this chic hotel, very close to the city center. The room was clean, the toiletries were good quality, and the staff were professional. The bathroom felt a bit cramped for a four-star room, and the pillows smelled like dirty laundry. A few hooks in the bathroom would be useful. I’d still warmly recommend the hotel.
