We'd booked at 2 pm and arrived at 5, but no rooms were ready and no staff had come to work that day. The person I spoke to on the phone offered another place to stay, but it was 25 miles back the way we'd come. Before going inside, we called to ask what to do because the property's dogs had come up to our car, and were told it was okay to enter. Someone showed up about five minutes later. The forest road to the lodge has garbage and construction materials scattered along parts of it, so it didn't feel like a wilderness paradise. There are easier-to-reach options nearby in the Bistra and Donca valleys. The bridge over the Mures is pretty flimsy, though crossing its wooden planks over the metal frame does give you an adrenaline rush.

Beautiful rooms and a lovely place surrounded by wild nature. We called ahead to say we'd arrive around 6 pm and the local staff assured us we could order food. We hadn't eaten on the way to Denisa, but found out they only cook once a day, at 8 pm. The wait wasn't great, and a couple of hours and beers later, everything worked out. Breakfast was good.

It's a comfortable, warm place with lots of room for a weekend, and the people are friendly. If you're coming as a couple or on your own, you can find things to do. With kids, bring plenty of toys and some books or other things to keep them busy, and try making up new games together. In winter there's snow to enjoy, while spring or summer is a great time for a walk in the surrounding woods and mountains.

The rooms are spacious and clean, the service is excellent, and the food is good. There are magnificent views all around, plus a playground for children and a large covered terrace with a barbecue. The hosts are warm and welcoming.
