The house and its yard are pleasant, and the yard in particular is lovely and well cared for. But the village around it felt unsettling: many homes seemed deserted or ruined, stray dogs were about, and a snake came out of the tall grass during our walk. We had hoped for a glimpse of village life, but the setting wasn't what we expected. We picked Cloasterf Haus after failing to find a room in Viscri, and the listing and reviews gave us a misleading impression. The hosts may feel they've explained the arrangements, but I missed the note in the confirmation email that payment was cash only. Booking.com didn't charge my card, and I only realized at checkout that I needed enough cash for seven people, three rooms for three nights, breakfast, and one dinner. There isn't an ATM nearby. Breakfast, which we thought was included, was served without a price being mentioned: 50 lei per person. Dinner was 100 lei per person. For this kind of experience, those prices felt very high. The owners are good people, and the Romanian part of my family enjoyed talking with them and hearing their personal stories. Still, keeping the Haus running seemed more like a chore than something they enjoyed, and we didn't get the warm, attentive village hospitality we had wanted. Dna Bejan made breakfast from the same deli platters found elsewhere in Romania, with eggs cooked to your preference, and there were no other options close by. Requests were usually handled, but with some reluctance, whether we asked for a capuchino or for two trays of frozen pastries to be baked one evening because there was nowhere else to eat. A request to use a BBQ was turned down because they weren't set up for it. During our three nights, the rubbish bins in all the rooms weren't emptied. Room cleaning may not be required, but leaving the rubbish there felt like an oversight. There was also WiFi only in the dining area, not in the rooms, which mattered for travelers with limited mobile data. Our 14-year-old had plenty to say about that. I can't comment on the school trips and workshops they apparently host. For families with children, though, I wouldn't recommend this as a destination, and the owners should make the setting and lack of nearby activities clear. With a more guest-focused approach, the prices might feel fairer and people might be more comfortable with the surroundings.

The grounds are peaceful, almost like a little paradise, and both the location and the tidy rooms appealed to me. Sadly, I wouldn't return because of the host. She had one reason after another for not making breakfast, even though the room price includes it according to the page. Her manner with guests was the opposite of welcoming. A friend later told me she'd had the same experience there with the same woman. Such a shame, because I really liked the place.

We were traveling by camper, so we only stopped for a meal. The food had a lovely local touch and tasted delicious, and the owner was incredibly kind to us. Thanks for making us feel welcome. I'd happily stay a few days another time and enjoy the village.

Quiet surroundings, a genuinely great host, and really good home-cooked meals. The lodging has a lovely traditional feel and is decorated with taste. A perfect spot to get away for a while.

We were looked after so well by the kind host, who made us a delicious dinner at home and served it in the garden. That care is what made the stay so memorable. The location is excellent and the rooms are high quality. I can't recommend it enough.
