The Council Hotel

The staff were very nice, and they let me leave my luggage at the hotel until the afternoon, which was helpful. The location is beside the clock tower, between Piata mica and Piata centrala. The old building has romantic, period-style interiors with some antique furniture, though it can't offer all the comforts of a new hotel. It seemed to have been recently renovated, since I could smell the paint on the floors or doors.

The location is the only thing worth mentioning. The rooms are very old and smell that way, and the amenities are lacking. For a four-star hotel at this price, I expected more attention and a much better range at breakfast. There's no elevator. I understand that in such an old building, but I think guests should be told. Otherwise, stay away.

The breakfast was good, and the historic-center location was exceptional. We stayed just one night, and the room felt a bit pricey. It was very hot outside, so we had to sleep with the air conditioning on, but it was so noisy that we didn't rest very well.

Hotel The Council sits right in the heart of the city, which is excellent, but there's no parking and nearby spaces are hard to find. For a hotel rated four stars, the stay felt more like two. The rooms are small with old furniture, and the bathroom drain was clogged during my visit. The air conditioning is a makeshift setup, a portable unit with a pipe sticking through a hole in the window. Even charging a phone takes some maneuvering: the only 220V outlet is behind the bed, which is bolted to the floor, as the pictures show. Breakfast was basic and not very appetizing. I wouldn't recommend it, especially at this price.
