Finding somewhere to sit was tough, but the lake was lovely and the view was beautiful. The staff were helpful too. Thumbs up.

The restaurant serves tasty food at low prices. It was a great, healthy experience.
A memorable spot. Don’t miss the chance to go for a swim in the lake!
Ursu Lake (Bear Lake) is at the heart of Sovata’s balneoclimateric resort and draws many visitors for its reputation for healing properties. It’s officially recognized as the world’s largest heliothermal lake. It formed in 1875 after a salt mining area collapsed, and its shape, like a stretched bear skin, gave it its name. The lake’s heat comes from layers of water that stay separate: rain and stream water on top doesn’t mix with the denser salt water below. The surface layer insulates the deeper water, letting sunlight warm it. Early in summer, the lower layers can reach 35°C to 50°C (95°F-122°F). Each day at noon, the lake closes for two hours so the layers can settle again and preserve the effect. The saline water and sapropelic mud are described as having strong anti-inflammatory properties. The lake is known for treatments related to degenerative and inflammatory rheumatism, post-traumatic conditions, female infertility, and pelvic inflammation. It’s also said to help with chronic fatigue and stress and to rebalance the nervous system. There’s more to do around the lake as well. The Ursu Eco-Didactic Route has wooden footbridges and viewpoints over the salt lakes, and the surrounding forests have easy walking circuits for families. Sovata has also become a wellness destination, with modern treatment centers, indoor saltwater pools open year-round, and spa facilities.
Floating in the pleasantly warm, salty water was lovely, especially in summer. Lacul Ursu has a peaceful feel, surrounded by green forest, and the grounds are well kept, with places to sunbathe and freshen up. The lake is worth visiting for both relaxation and its healing waters. I’d recommend it to families, couples, or anyone needing a break from everyday life. I’ll be back.
