Danube Delta Hostel Homestay

We came as a family, hoping to pitch our tent for a couple of nights, but left before staying. The place offered for the tent was small and dirty, with dog mess around. Getting there also took much longer than the website's directions suggested: the walk to the crossing was nearly a kilometre, not 300 metres. That made a real difference with luggage and three tired young children. Soon after we arrived, a woman, whose role I couldn't tell, shouted at us and threatened to kill our children, saying they were racist. It was frightening, whatever had made her angry. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

We paid 80 lei each to sleep one night in the shared room, and since we were the only guests, it worked out well. It's a lovely, peaceful spot, though expectations should be modest this far out. The shower is outside in the yard and the water was cold, which didn't bother us in the heat. The woman there was polite and helpful, although she spoke little English. One thing to plan around is the river crossing. The place is on the Danube's left bank, while Sulina and its restaurants are on the right, so we paid 2 lei per person for a boat each time. That's manageable, but the last crossing is at 9:30 p.m., early if you want to stay out at the town's restaurants or bars. Delta tours run until 10 a.m., then resume around 4-5 p.m. They can last anywhere from two to six hours depending on the route, so plan ahead.

Stepping into the hostel felt like arriving exactly where I was meant to be. It has the feel of a little paradise, and the vibe was amazing. Ivan and the volunteer did a great job. I met lots of interesting people, and we ended up doing activities together.

I already miss this hostel. It felt like a home away from home, not just somewhere to sleep. Papa Ivan welcomed me straight away, and the volunteers during my stay put a lot into making the place special. It was cozy and clean, with everything I needed. Highly recommended!
