Motel Darina

The restaurant downstairs is a highlight, with huge portions that could easily feed two people each. I think a meal with drinks and dessert may cost nearly as much as a room, but it's well worth it. The hotel is good value and about 2 km from the airport. The rooms are basic but have what you need, including a small fridge. They can be a bit noisy, especially when there are rooms above you, though I slept well. After I spoke with the woman at the hotel on the truck parking side, they kindly arranged an airport transfer, so I had no complaints in the end.

After visiting Romania for around 12 years, this was easily the worst restaurant I've been to. The staff were rude and unhelpful, the food was below average, and service was practically nonexistent. We ordered several dishes and none were better than mediocre. My spaghetti seemed to have been frozen, and it arrived stone cold. When I told the waiter, he simply took it away without acknowledging the problem or apologizing. A few minutes later it came back, presumably after a turn in the microwave, and still there was no explanation or apology. Just silence.

The waiter was pleasant, the atmosphere was nice, and it seemed child-friendly, but the food didn't match those positives. We went on Sunday evening and ordered pork, a vegetarian plate, soups, and spaghetti. Everything was poorly prepared. If you're really hungry, you can eat here, but otherwise I'd pick another restaurant.

We had to keep shooing away flies throughout the meal, and the bill charged us for eight slices of bread that had been put on the table without us ordering or eating them, or being asked if we wanted them. The food was bad too. The children's spaghetti marinara was made with ketchup instead of proper tomato sauce, and the smell of warmed ketchup was awful. Worse, I found meat in a soup that was supposed to be vegetarian. The server had assured us all soups were cooked separately, but the soup tasted of meat throughout. They just picked the meat out and served it as vegetarian. So they misled us about what we were eating, served poor food, added something to the bill without asking, and the conditions felt unsanitary. I'm not going back.
