Hotel Egreta

The staff are pretty nice, and the location is close to everything. The rooms, including the renovated ones, still look a little old and have a furniture smell, like it needs changing. It did the job for me, so I’d recommend it to people who just need a hotel, not a home away from home. :)

The staff were very friendly, and breakfast was decent, though nothing special. It’s nicely located and the stay was quite cheap, so it may be worth the money if that’s your budget. They call it a three-star hotel, but realistically, much of the furniture looks like it’s from the 70s and seems more like a two-star place. That’s why I gave it two stars.

I was really disappointed by the hotel and the service. If zero stars were possible, I’d give them. The bed had the most uncomfortable mattress, like something from the age of knights and dragons. The TV was a Nokia brick, probably sturdy enough to survive a fall from the fourth floor. The bathroom plug didn’t work either. There were too many problems to keep adding as I went, so here’s the rest: the bedroom plug was a serious safety hazard; the shower taps were nearly falling off; the bathroom handles fell off once; the toilet seat wobbled; the fridge didn’t work; the fan only worked on one setting; and the mosquito screen had holes. The couch was worse than the floor, basically leather over a sketch of a chair. The carpet was the dirtiest I’ve ever seen and looked like it had never been washed. Shower pressure was awful, and the towels had big yellow stains. There was no kettle or tea, and no Wi-Fi or emergency service information in the room. After sunset, the hallway was pitch black because the lights came on with a serious delay. The cleaners came some days and skipped others. When they did come, they didn’t vacuum or clean the sink, and didn’t replace towels even when they were left on the floor. I booked eight nights and got only one tiny bottle of shower gel. When I asked the receptionist for an iron, she had no idea what I meant, even though I asked in the local language. On my last night, my door was forced. I don’t recommend this place unless you want to feel like you’re staying in a hotel from a good horror film.

The price was much too high for what we got. The AC and heater didn’t work, and the staff didn’t know the area. There wasn’t any free coffee or anything else, while the restaurant charged a lot even for a cup and served food like something from a retirement home. Mosquitoes still got into my room despite the screens. The two water bottles in the minibar had both been opened before. Not ideal. For the same price, I found an amazing place in Iasi with none of this hassle.
