We arrived to find that our host had given every room to a group of people, despite our booking two weeks earlier. When I called, he said he’d “forgotten” about us and even asked whether we had booked a double or triple room. He had arranged a room at another hotel in town, but didn’t mention it until we called about our original booking. That room cost more and we had to pay at the property. He could at least have told us he’d forgotten and assumed we’d be fine with the alternative he chose.

The staff are friendly, but there’s room for improvement. Some things listed on Booking.com weren’t there, and if you want lunch, check whether the restaurant is open when you arrive. Events are held at the restaurant on weekends, so avoid those days if you’re hoping for a quiet, relaxing stay.

I stayed overnight for a party and had a really nice experience. The place was spotless and decorated well with new furniture. There’s a large terrace at the back and a big garden with a swing, barbecue, and fireplace.

The host charged us just to use the kitchen, even for a few plates and forks. He expected guests to close the whole place at night, then got hostile when we asked for a receipt and threatened to charge us more the next time we used that damn kitchen. Never again, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
