Pensiunea Iza

I’m thinking of staying here because it seems to be the closest place I’ve found to the Mocănița Maramureș train. Is there a taxi service in the area to get to the train departure point?

The room stayed cold, even after we asked for heat during the day. We were told the place is usually heated only at certain times since tourists are out during the day, and that we should call ahead if we planned to stay in so they could light the fire. The next morning it was still cold. They said they’d turn the heat on, but also told us to pay for the nights we’d already spent there and find somewhere else if we weren’t happy with how they heated the place. We even had to eat breakfast wearing our jackets. The service was poor, and I’ve never had an experience like this anywhere else. Simply disgraceful.

You’ll need a car to get around and see the area, though the location itself is great. We had a good stay overall, and the host was friendly, committed, and ready to help with problems or suggest places to visit. Breakfast was offered separately, which worked well because we could choose what we wanted each day. The rooms looked great, but weren’t as comfortable as we’d hoped. The mattress was a little uncomfortable and the pillow much too soft. Hot water was also irregular throughout our stay, and they couldn’t fix it in time. Still, it made for a nice week away from the daily routine.

It was quiet, the beds were comfortable, and breakfast was good. The owners were accommodating when we arrived late and still found us a place to stay. The facilities were spotless, and the woodwork inside and outside was beautifully done. Common rooms had traditional Romanian clothing on display. We’d definitely come back.
