I barely slept two hours. I’d booked one night because the place seemed remote enough to avoid the barking dogs I’d mentioned in my Turtle Camp review. The owner had a dog that seemed quiet at first, but at night it barked nonstop right below my window. I managed to get it into the hallway, where it settled down, but another guest let it back out and the barking started again. The owner doesn’t live there, so it doesn’t disturb him, and there was no phone number posted for me to call and ask him to do something. Just terrible.

The room was clean and warm, and as accommodation the place was decent. The towels in the bathroom were pathetic, like the kind handed out at funerals for social workers. We stayed three nights over New Year with half-board meals included. What disappointed me was the owner’s attitude: he gathered up whatever was left on the tables, rearranged it, and served it again the next day. Even more shocking, three families bought pork ham from him, and every one of us got 1 and a half kg instead of 2kg. Unbelievable, but unfortunately true. I’d like to believe this isn’t how a true Maramuresian behaves. For me, it’s a 3-star place, and the owner gets only a very small ray of one star.

The rooms are nicely decorated with wooden furniture and have private bathrooms. There’s parking, an outdoor terrace, and a small play area for children. It’s a quiet location, and the owner is nice. Sound carries through the wooden building, so the soundproofing isn’t great. We happened to have very quiet neighbors, though, and didn’t mind. I recommend it.

There’s a stream babbling behind the place, with two gazebos nearby, and the yard has grass instead of paving. I love the mountain grass too. I’ve been here less than 24 hours and already love it. Kitchen service runs at set times. Breakfast from 07.00 - 09.00 and dinner from 19.00 - 21.00 were included, and the food is very good.
