I spoke with Mrs. on the phone while Dansa was out of the country and explained what we needed. She said the place had all the facilities, including a refrigerator, a place set up for dinner, and a kitchen available to guests. Out of common courtesy, I left 40 RON for the inconvenience. Because we were in a difficult situation, her husband provided what we asked for, but he didn’t know about the conversation with Mrs. and was surprised and bothered by the situation. Both he and I were disturbed by it.

We felt at home at Casa Maria Guesthouse, and want to thank Mrs. Maria for the warm welcome and all the thoughtful details. We stayed there with another family from Buzău from May 1 to 4, at Strada Gării no. 22 in Vișeu de Sus. The hosts were welcoming and attentive, and Mrs. Maria’s warm, authentic Maramureșian voice adds to the charm. Their involvement felt sincere, and we especially appreciated their kindness and openness to requests. The guesthouse is just a few steps from the CFF Train Station, which makes it easy to visit Mocăniță, the famous forest steam railway and a symbol of Maramureș, without driving. San Marco Restaurant is also nearby. We found one of the best pizzas in Maramureș there, and maybe one of the best in the country. Rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the common areas are well maintained. There’s a generous recreation area with tables and chairs in different sizes, swings, a trampoline, and a children’s playground. It’s well suited to families with young children, and the quiet, pleasant setting made it easy for guests to socialize. The terrace is nice for morning coffee or a calm evening outdoors. The price for what you get is excellent, whether you’re passing through for a rest or staying a few relaxing days in an authentic corner of Maramureș. There’s free Wi-Fi throughout, free parking, and a refrigerator and freezer guests can use. Reception is open 24/24, and Romanian and English are spoken, which is useful for visitors from abroad.

The rooms in the apartment were small but clean, and the terrace was large, though it still needs some maintenance. The bathroom is small, and the apartment bathroom is in the shared hallway. All the doors creak terribly. Parking is on an unpaved road, and it’s far from the mocanita. Check-out was a rushed hei rup at 10.00 in the morning. The price is similar to other places on Booking. I’d only recommend it as a second choice.
