Bicycle Belgrade Hostel

I won't return. The owner made the whole stay miserable, and there was no kitchen or fridge. We arrived after a six-hour drive from Sarajevo, but he wasn't at the hostel. We waited and texted him, then went to the nearby bar where he was supposed to be. He wasn't there either, so someone from the bar called him. It took at least 20 minutes for him to arrive, and the first thing he demanded was money. We asked to pay after getting food since we had no cash with us, but he was grumpy and insisted we pay before going to our room. We got cash, then he saw us going to the car and demanded another €5 for parking. We only had a small amount because we were leaving the next day, but he still insisted we pay right away or couldn't return to the room. It was frustrating and unfriendly, and the two ATM withdrawals cost us at least €5. The next day, someone working nearby yelled at me that the parking space belonged to her, not the hostel.

It's still a great deal if you don't expect much, and you can tell the owner put a lot of heart and hard work into building it. The place does feel a bit plain and cramped, though, and the wooden floor creaks. Despite what others have said, I don't think he's racist.

The bedbugs were the worst part. I was there for two nights and got bitten all over my body. See the photos. The staff's response was just as bad, especially the Russian guy who apparently volunteered at the hostel. When I wanted to check out early, he refused to call the owner for me. They brushed off my complaint about the bugs and acted as if I had made it up, apparently to avoid taking responsibility. My friends were bitten too and left early. I also found the bathroom and shower filthy. Staff weren't at the desk or in the hostel, so you had to go to the pub next door and wait for someone to come check you in. The AC only started working after I complained.

I didn't stay. There was nobody there, and I waited over an hour for the owner to turn up. He got angry when he saw me using the Wi-Fi while I waited, then yelled at me and called me several nasty names. Extremely disrespectful.
