Hostel Beogradjanka

I booked because of the high rating, but the stay was disappointing. The hot water cut out halfway through my shower in winter, which made an already poor experience worse. The bedding was filthy: hair on the bed, visible yellow stains on the blanket, and an unclean pillow. It didn’t feel properly washed or sanitized. They did provide towels, but they were stiff and rough like floor mats, so uncomfortable to use. For a hostel with such a high rating, the cleanliness and basic facilities fell short. I wouldn’t return or recommend it.

The hardest part was finding the place at first, since there’s no sign on the building. Watch the video they send to help you locate it. Once inside, it’s centrally located, cleaner than average, with friendly staff and adequate amenities. I’ve stayed in hostels in Berlin and Frankfurt, and this is one of the best. The balcony is a little small. When Far Eastern friends are staying, they talk loudly on their phones until midnight and cook very spicy food with a strong smell. Aside from those things, everything is excellent. I’ll stay here again when I’m in Belgrade.

The host was friendly, and the kitchen and living room are spacious. The rooms are also comfortable, and the price is fair for a short one or two night stay in Belgrade. But finding the entrance was an adventure. There were no clear signs, so we asked at a neighboring bar, then had to go up two floors inside a residential building. The stairwell is extremely dirty and very old, which makes a poor first impression. Inside, cleanliness was poor too, with mold in the bathroom and dirty floors. We could hardly believe a hostel was there until we saw the sign on the door. Good value and a friendly host, but the confusing entrance and lack of cleanliness made the stay less enjoyable.

I’m staying here now, and the place is in serious disrepair. There’s just one working bathroom and shower for 20 beds, and my room’s AC doesn’t work. I slept on the couch last night. Come on... 🙄
