I felt like I was walking along a street in Vienna. There are plenty of shops, cafés and restaurants, plus a few souvenir shops. It's an interesting place to visit, and you'll probably pass through here 10 or more times while you're in Belgrade.

Knez Mihailova street is my favorite pedestrian street. I love the mix of architecture, from beautiful old buildings, some dating back to the last century, to newer modern ones. There are lots of boutiques and shops, with a fountain in the middle. It leads to the famous Kalemegdan park and fortress, where you get a fascinating view of the Sava and Danube rivers meeting.

The architecture on this street gives you a lovely look at the classic yet elegant history of the Balkans. It's definitely one of the best attractions to visit in Belgrade.

I used the city library as my main meeting point on this street, which runs between Kalemegdan fortress and park and Republic Square. At around 700-800m long, it’s a good place to walk and feel the city’s pulse, and I enjoyed coming through daily. There are shopping centers, shops, cafés, restaurants and souvenir stores along the way. Mark these places: Kafeteria Magazin, Starbucks, Rajićeva Shopping Center, H&M and LC Wakiki.

Ulica Kneza Mihaila was officially named in 1870, after it had taken shape following Belgrade’s 1867 regulation plan by Emilijan Josimović. Influential and wealthy commercial and political families moved into the houses built here. Today it’s a pedestrian shopping area, protected as one of the city’s oldest and most valuable monumental complexes, with many notable buildings and urban houses dating from the late 1870s. The area is thought to have been the center of the Singidunum settlement in Roman times. Under Turkish rule, winding streets with gardens, fountains and mosques stood here. In the mid-19th century, Knez Aleksandar Karađorđević had a garden in the upper part of the street.
