The Location Hotel

The hotel's location was the one real consolation during our 5-day stay. For a place advertised as 4-star, though, the experience was hugely disappointing, especially because of the hygiene. The jacuzzi was visibly dirty when we arrived. We complained right away, but even after an attempt to clean it, we didn't dare use it. Our room was dusty and poorly cleaned too. After we asked for a second cleaning, there was still thick dust and dirt in the corners and on the bed. The cleaner said she had done it “really well” and didn't take our criticism seriously, which felt very unprofessional. The towels we were first given were stained. When we asked for replacements, one pillowcase had a big hole. The small sofa was damaged as well, with a cigarette hole and a white stain we couldn't explain. We asked immediately for a partial refund because the jacuzzi was unusable, but getting an answer dragged on. We had to ask for an update every day for four days, and only heard back after saying we'd contact the manager ourselves. We were there for just 5 days, so that response time was unacceptable. The compensation offered, the room price difference and a free minibar, came too late to save the stay. At checkout no one asked how things had gone. We just got a blunt “bye.” With the hygiene problems, poor upkeep, and slow, unprofessional handling of complaints, this hotel doesn't meet 4-star standards. We strongly advise against it.

The bed was okay, and the location is decent, though it's at the bottom of a hill. That's about all I liked. My room wasn't cleaned once during my stay, the hot water came in 5-minute bursts, and the air conditioning didn't work. It was too noisy to leave the window open. Rooms farther from reception don't get Wi-Fi, so avoid any room starting with C. I wasn't impressed.

The location was good value, and the bed was comfortable with decent sound dampening. The room standard was generally good, though there was some wear on the bathroom woodwork. The AC didn't seem to work, which was fine in October but would be a problem in summer. The heat worked fine. It felt more like a set of rooms with a front desk than much of a hotel. There was no breakfast or lobby or waiting area. On day 2 I was asked whether I wanted the room serviced. I'd expect that as standard and not as a question. I said yes, but it never happened. The service and provisions didn't feel like what you'd expect from somewhere calling itself 4-star.

We had to book two different rooms, and the larger one with the jacuzzi was roomy and comfortable. The staff were very helpful, and our rooms were clean and especially soundproof. The location was excellent too. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely return.
