The food was decent: my chicken fillet was tender and delicious, and the beef my companion ordered was just as juicy and tasty. Still, lunch took nearly an hour to arrive after we ordered for two. The only section open was the one by the playground, so we were surrounded by screaming kids, hungry and overstimulated, with no way to switch tables. We could have eaten indoors, but the weather was beautiful. The atmosphere may be lovely if you have kids or enjoy being around them, but couples coming for lunch might want earplugs. We'll give it another try on a weekday, but will avoid weekends. Was it worth it? I'm leaning yes.

Jelen had fast service and a beautiful ethno-style interior, but the meal was a letdown. The soup came cold, and all three different dishes we ordered were tasteless. I've started to feel these old-school Salaš places around Palic are overpriced. We skipped another one after realizing that, then gave Jelen a chance because of its good reviews, but were disappointed.

Check your receipt carefully. They added dishes we hadn't ordered to our bill. When we raised it, they called it a mistake and gave the money back, but it felt like they were trying to deceive us. We had children with us, which made the whole thing especially unpleasant. Disgusting.

The food brings together Hungarian and Serbian cooking, made locally and served with a bright smile. Jelen Salaš feels like a hidden gem in northern Serbia, with farm tools and furniture chosen to create a rustic step back a century. Five stars don't feel like enough. We'll tell everyone about it and hope to return.

Daniel was a professional, genuinely kind waiter. The domestic red wine was wow, and the perkelt is one of the best meals you can try. One of Serbia's best places to dine. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Highly recommended.
