The meals were a lovely surprise: fresh, tasty, healthy food that left us feeling energized instead of stuffed. Denis Island also really came through on privacy, which we’d been cautious about after seeing so many beautiful online photos that don’t always match real life. We spent four nights there during a few weeks in the Seychelles, and the beach cottages are spaced along the shore so it feels like your own stretch of beach. Sustainability is a real part of how the island works, helped by a large farm that supplies most of the food served and handles leftovers from the restaurant, canteens, and gardens. Even the gardener looking after our cottage proudly told us that the leaves and flowers he collected each day went to the farm for composting. It’s clear the staff care about it too.

We loved the flight in and out on the four seater plane, with amazing views of the islands and turquoise water below. Denis Private Island is a private, romantic spot for honeymooners, and would also suit families wanting time in nature without giving up comfort. There’s no WiFi or TV in the rooms, which made for a proper digital detox, though you can get WiFi in the lobby and watch TV in the library. The villas are roomy, with private beach access and outdoor bathrooms, and that powder white sand is only steps away. We rode personal bicycles between our chalet and the main area, a really fun touch, and a golf buggy picked us up for the short five minute ride from the airstrip when we arrived. Snorkeling by the pool on the house reef brought us close to turtles and rays. On land, we fed giant tortoises, including one that’s 128 years old, and enjoyed the birdlife. Every meal was excellent, thanks to the head chef and team. Much of the food is local, with plenty from the island’s own farm. Thanks to Narinder, Gopal, and Remi for being so warm and attentive at every meal.

You arrive expecting a luxury getaway, but leave with a new appreciation for a way of life that’s rare to see. Denis Island protects endemic species while still offering a peaceful, restorative luxury stay. As an ecotourism destination, it’s a self-sustaining place where people and native species seem to live alongside each other in a friendly ecosystem. The care put into each part of the island is impressive, and it shows how well that coexistence can work when the environment and a low footprint come first. The closest thing to paradise I’ve come across. 100% recommend.

For us, the food was spot on, especially knowing the local produce came from the island itself. We went to Denis Island for our honeymoon and it really did make it exceptional. From boarding the plane, which was private in our case, the team treated us so well. The views, the quiet, the ocean and the nature all felt completely one of a kind. What a treat, a true luxury escape into paradise. Highly recommended!

Swimming with turtles on the east side was one of the best parts of our stay. The underwater life made for unforgettable snorkeling, and the birds, hermit crabs and lush greenery around the island were magical. It’s honestly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. We only had two nights at Denis Private Island, and I really didn’t want to leave on departure day. I’d recommend at least 5-6 days to take it all in, and I can’t wait to return and stay longer. The Beach Spa Cottage felt like having our own private beach. I’d seen reviews calling it a bit old, but that wasn’t our experience at all: the room was beautifully designed, well maintained and comfortable, with details that made sense and a calm, cozy feel. Every meal, breakfast, lunch and dinner, was fresh, flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, with lots of variety. The food was another big surprise, way beyond what I expected. The staff were warm, friendly and always ready to help. There’s something special about the atmosphere here. You don’t just stay on the island, you become part of it. We were absolutely enchanted. It felt like we’d found ourselves here, and the place stayed in my heart after we left.
