Coral Apartments

The hosts were flexible and easy to communicate with, and seemed able to arrange whatever we needed. They’d thought through all sorts of details, from beach towels and umbrellas to personal hygiene products and kitchen equipment. Breakfast was excellent and really tasty. I can honestly recommend this place to everyone!

WATCH OUT. We had a terrible experience at Coral and left the next day. We arrived after a long travel day, already dealing with food poisoning from Tanzania, and just wanted AC and time to recover. The hostess demanded cash on arrival. The room was listed on booking for 145 EUR, which I understood to equal 2550 rupees, but she charged me 2850. I paid quickly without checking. Two hours later, when I asked about the conversion, she said I’d paid only 2350 and that she’d given me “a good deal.” I told her I’d paid 2850. She took cash from her pocket and insisted, “see you only paid 2350, I gave you good deal!!” She was already agitated, her English was hard to understand, and she started yelling. Arguing didn’t seem productive, so I walked away. I’m nearly 100% sure she pocketed the other 500 rupees and scammed me. The way she quickly pulled cash from her left pocket and slammed it on the table makes me think she’s pulled this stunt with clients before. I also noticed the reviews were from “local guides” rather than visitors or typical tourists. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

The rooms are clean, and the place is conveniently close to the ferry, though the lighting is bad. If you get a room by the sawmill, be prepared for dogs barking all night. I could hardly sleep. After I insisted on moving rooms, things were fine. 3,5/5

The ladies who run the place made us feel so welcome, and even gave us a sweet honeymoon gift. We had a tasty breakfast, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. It’s conveniently close to the port and a handy shop. Bikes were available, though a little worn when we visited. A lovely stay!
