Pension Michel

We booked three nights, but weather during a catamaran tour changed our itinerary and brought us to La Digue earlier than planned. After spending time on the island before the reservation began, we decided to cancel and use the remaining time differently. Four days after booking, we contacted the hotel asking to cancel and get a partial refund for the unused nights, more than $400 in total. The owner gave us a rigid, impersonal response and wouldn't discuss a compromise. It felt like dealing with an automated system, and we were surprised by the lack of understanding or flexibility around cancellations and refunds. I wouldn't recommend booking unless your plans are completely certain.

The gardens inside Pension Michel were lovely, and the location felt just about perfect, more or less central to everything. We stayed two nights. The rooms were nice, though a few finishing details could use attention. There was a mini fridge but no bottled water provided. The shower worked well, but its handheld head only fits in one position on the wall, which could be adjusted to make showering easier. Breakfast was good, with toast, butter and jams, banana bread, fruit, and eggs served to every table. I don't eat eggs, so that part went to waste for me, though my partner enjoyed them. I noticed other tables wasting food too, since guests weren't asked what they wanted. Walking from the ferry seemed manageable until we hit flooded roads and a flooded reception area after rain, and had to go through what felt like rivers. Take the shuttle. Given the four-minute drive, I think it should be included in the price, especially after torrential rain. The hotel could add it to the pricing and offer a free ferry shuttle.

A very nice little hotel in La Digue, with good AC and a pleasant breakfast of fruit, eggs, juice, and coffee. The staff were lovely. They arranged bicycles and a buggy to the ferry, and even packed breakfast for us without being asked when we had to leave early.

A small hotel that's run well, spotlessly clean, and in a perfect location. The AC worked properly, and Room 1 had a nice veranda sitting area. There's also a little garden seating area with fans, a great place to relax. Breakfast was generous, with fruit, eggs, toast, juice, and pretty decent coffee. The room Wi-Fi worked well too. Great value, and easy to recommend.
