While staying at Böda Strand, I heard there was a Brazilian restaurant on Öland. Its ad in a local magazine even mentioned churrasco. You don’t hear of places like that in Sweden every day, so as a homesick Brazilian I talked my girlfriend into the 40-minute drive. Once we got there, none of the waitresses knew what churrasco was. I ordered picanha na chapa, the closest thing on the menu to barbecue, while my girlfriend ordered açaí and coxinha. The waitress didn’t know what açaí was either and had to ask a coworker, who called it “the ice cream we serve in the bar.” The picanha was tough to chew, the açaí was watery, and the coxinha was drier than the Sahara. If you’re Brazilian and craving food from home, this isn’t the place. Restaurant, you’re ruining the idea of Brazilian food. Improve it or stop calling it Brazilian!
