Sandviks Camping

It was nearly a five-star stay for me. The seaside campsite is spacious and quiet, with trees and a natural, simple look that feels right for camping. The Dutch owner was helpful and friendly, and the facilities were well kept. The beach let it down, though, as it wasn't good for swimming and there wasn't a better option nearby. Getting into the toilets and showers requires a key, and all the power sockets were disabled, so electric shaving wasn't possible. Showers are limited to four minutes, which felt too long to me, but too short for people washing long hair. Those issues detracted from an otherwise great experience.

The facilities were the letdown for me. The toilets and showers work, but the buildings are damp, dark and a bit creepy, and the kitchen is the same. A little improvement could make a big difference, so it's a shame they're left this way. Still, the campsite itself is pretty, peaceful and wonderfully located. The owner was friendly and helped me find a pitch that suited me. The coast is lovely, though there is seaweed. We found a gap to get in for a quick swim, then watched the sunset with a beer. I'd recommend it if you want a quiet campsite by the sea.

It's a nice, quiet campsite, and I loved the trees that shelter you from the sea wind. The beach wasn't usable for walking or swimming because of the dead seaweed, which gives off a bit of a smell as you pass. Toilets and showers need a key pass, but there's only one for each reservation. A family of five had to share theirs, which wasn't very convenient.

The island location and general feel of the campsite were fine, but two things were major problems for me. There are only three toilets and three showers for all the men, and the same number for women, despite the large number of tent pitches. Earlier reviews suggest this has been an issue for years. Also, guests let their dogs relieve themselves around the campsite. The urine stinks near tents, and dogs and children together can be a bad combination. Dog owners should know better, but the owners need to make the rules clear and enforce them. Instead of correcting details in reviews, please invest in the sanitary facilities.
