My stay was on the night of July 15-16, and it was the most unpleasant hotel experience I’ve had in three years of living and travelling in Sweden. We arrived around 00:10 after a rough drive through fog and rain, with moose on the road. I’d called ahead to say we’d be about ten minutes late for check-in, but the response was cold and offered no understanding or help. At reception, I showed my Ukrainian international passport, then was asked for a visa and had to return to the car to get the documents. I have the legal right to stay in Sweden under the EU Temporary Protection Directive for refugees, and no other hotel I’ve stayed at here has asked for those papers at check-in, especially late at night after a stressful journey. I believe a passport would have been enough if I were from an EU country like the Netherlands. It felt like unnecessary suspicion and unequal treatment at a moment when I was vulnerable. Instead of basic hospitality, I was met with coldness and stress. Very disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone who values respectful, humane service.

The staff were very friendly and service-minded. This is one of the newer Scandic Hotels, close to the ski jump. It’s about a five-minute drive into downtown Falun.

The renovations look beautiful, and there’s a nice pool, a well-equipped gym, and a delicious breakfast. The reception team were always polite and helpful, and they sorted out any issues quickly. Everyone was incredibly welcoming. This exceeded all our expectations and was the best Scandic we’ve stayed at.

The main-road-facing rooms are a little noisy, but the staff are friendly. Breakfast is really good, with gluten-free bakery items and a separate gluten-free corner that has a toaster and other things.
