I expected a lot from this expensive riding camp, but feel like my money went down the drain. Over six days, I had a working, trained camp horse only for the last two, and I nearly went home after day four. There was very little riding. The website promised two sessions a day, but we only had two training sessions on one of the six days. On other days, we took a roughly 10-minute walk around a small meadow with the leader joining in. One session was sitting practice on a horse being lunged, with each of us getting two minutes. Some lessons lasted only 20 minutes. Many horses were untrained, including the untrained five-year-old I was first assigned. Training the horses wasn’t the point of the camp. Some children were given young, untrained ponies and fell off when they couldn’t manage them. When I packed to leave, they offered me a pony another child had been riding, so she had to switch to one of the young ones. She wasn’t happy about it. I stayed the final two days and at least got two lessons where I could fully participate. The food was poor too, and there wasn’t enough of it. Vegetarians were served a completely different meal from everyone else, and very little food. I ended up eating at other restaurants nearby. I’ll never go back or recommend this place.

I’ve been coming to Brolöten since 2005, first for summer camps as a child and now, as an older person, for the atmosphere and the occasional lesson. It’s a really lovely facility, with such knowledgeable and dedicated staff. 🤩🥰

What began as a camp visit when I was eight, ten years ago, eventually turned into a job at Brolöten. I kept returning because I learned more about riding and horses in one week there than I did in a whole year at my riding school at home. The farm is fantastic and the horses are all lovely to ride. I’ve taken nothing but good experiences and lessons with me. I have huge respect for Emelie's and the rest of the Brolin family's care for the horses and their commitment. Highly recommend Brolöten.

I wouldn’t go back. In my opinion, the horse care was generally unpleasant, with lots of rub marks on the horses, tightly fastened nose halters and hard snood straps. The hard reins and snouts were used with horses that went behind the plumb line, which seemed to have the opposite effect of getting them in shape. I got no help or instructions with riding and didn’t learn anything. The schedule felt stressful, with little time to myself. Some leaders were good, but not all. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who wants to learn and cares about the horses. :)

I’ve spent ten years going to Brolöten and have only good things to say. The family atmosphere comes from the whole Brolin family, and Chris and Emelie are deeply committed to the riders. I’ve improved my riding a lot thanks to them. The stable staff have changed over the years, but they’ve always been helpful when I had questions or needed a hand. The food and accommodation have been good as well. I often travel alone and have always had my own room. There’s a spa area next to the rooms with showers, a sauna and a jacuzzi, which is perfect after a day in the saddle. The food has always been tasty and plentiful, with weekend courses aimed more at adults and riding camps with food that suits younger people. I’ve had a great time on every visit and plan to return this summer. Best regards, Helena.
