Scandic Gallivare

The one bright spot was the night porter, who was pleasant and gave us useful information. Otherwise, this felt like very poor value. The narrow beds were awful, and the synthetic bedding didn't help. The bathroom was all plastic, with a black floor and dark brown walls, and there was no bath mat; the tissue box was empty too. Sunlight showed fingerprints on the dirty windows and dust on the floor when we arrived. In the morning, the dark breakfast room turned out to have a below-standard, typical Swedish buffet, shared with local public servants such as police, firefighters and ambulance drivers, who help subsidise Scandic. The hotel is dated, in a town where many people work in the mines. Fortunately, the restaurant was closed for six weeks over the summer. We'd have rated the stay two stars if not for the helpful night porter.

The restaurant wasn't open, but that didn't matter with Gällivare just outside. After "climbing" Kebnekaise, I was glad to give my legs a rest here. It's cozy, with a pool, sauna, bubble pool and gym. Breakfast was great, with everything I could think of.

We were stranded in Gälliver because of a train, and the hotel staff took such good care of us. The room was fine, breakfast was great, and we're really grateful!

Making your own pancakes at breakfast is always a plus 👌🏻 The hotel is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff, cozy rooms, a sauna and a pool. The restaurant was good too, with local specialities.
