Hotel Villan, Bw Premier Collection

The lack of basic housekeeping was bad enough: over seven nights, our room was cleaned just once, and only after we asked. We got no fresh towels between cleanings, rubbish was left, and toilet paper wasn't replenished. The last night was much worse. We were on the ground floor, and around 9 pm several people in black hoods stood outside our window, staring in for about 20 minutes and shouting toward an upper-floor window. We thought they might be looking for someone. Later, we believe they were let inside. Shouting, screaming, knocking, and banging carried on through the night, and a police car eventually arrived and stayed outside for a while. I don't know who called them or what was going on. The shouting stopped after the police came, but banging and other noises, like furniture being moved, continued until morning. The hotel had no staff there to help us, and we're still left wondering what happened. We felt stressed, anxious, and exhausted afterward. I'd never felt so uneasy or unsafe in a hotel before. The corridors smelled of weed, and the place seemed full of dodgy people. With no staff on site, it felt even less safe. I wouldn't stay here if you want a quiet night's sleep, and I can't imagine being here alone.

The housekeeping staff were really friendly. My room was clean, though the hotel itself felt old. I stayed for two nights and couldn't get the Wi-Fi password: we asked twice through Booking.com and got no reply, and there wasn't one in the room.

We liked how quiet it was by the river, with lovely views and a relaxed feel. The room was plain but comfortable, and the price seemed affordable compared with nearby places. Breakfast came with the stay, simple but satisfying, and there's a small supermarket a short walk away for snacks or drinks. A couple of things to plan for: there's no electric kettle in the room, and staff aren't available around the clock, so getting help may take some planning. Dialog Hotel Villan worked well for a calm getaway at good value.

The location is one good thing about this place, but our junior suite was a miserable stay. The bathroom window was broken and wouldn't shut, and it was cold and pouring outside, so showering in that freezing bathroom was awful. The room had four plastic glasses and two gray towels, and nothing else: no hair dryer, which I badly needed for my long hair, and no iron either. I called the manager. He said he'd try to find someone to deal with the window and at least get a hair dryer, but nothing came of it. We paid around 1600 kr. a night, and at that price it's ridiculous. It felt more like a stable than a hotel. I wouldn't recommend it, and I'll steer clear next time.
