The hotel is well located, and the public rooms are very pleasant. Our room was large and seemed comfortable, though a little dated. It was in a rear wing across the courtyard. In the morning, both of us had lots of bites all over our bodies, which could only have come from bedbugs. We told the woman at reception. She seemed somewhat sceptical, but said she’d arrange a pest inspection and let us know the results. That was nearly three weeks ago, and we still haven’t heard anything from the hotel.

The hotel staff were very good, and both the dinner and breakfast were really good too. My only small complaint is that some staff weren’t very service minded, but it wasn’t a real problem. Maybe they were just having a bad day like the rest of us.

The backyard is a lovely spot for breakfast, coffee and relaxing, and the rooms are nice and spacious. It’s close to where you want to be, with very good service. My one reason for not giving five stars: where did the Clarion Pillows go? The next stop was Clarion Kalmar, where the experience was just as nice and the Clarion Pillows were there.

We had a family room off the courtyard, and my kids couldn’t believe how much space there was. It was dated, but massive and extremely comfortable, and all the staff we met were warm, friendly and accommodating. The possibility of renovation didn’t matter to me. Great value, good food, an awesome vibe and a great location with a playground across the street and downtown Halmstad very close. Everyone working there should be proud of their job. If I could give it a sixth star, I would. Keep it going, guys!

The tiny elevator and lack of AC were the downsides, and the rooms could use an update. Still, I was pleasantly surprised by the service. Breakfast, afternoon sweets and dinner are included in the room price. Breakfast had a nice selection, dinner was good, and the staff were attentive. The rooms are clean, spacious and adequately equipped. It’s well located in the heart of town and accommodates dogs.
