Hotel 1622 Adults Only

The spa itself was fine, but the arrival service, poor communication, lack of attention to detail, and the attitude at reception overshadowed the whole stay. I wouldn’t return or recommend this hotel. For a place presenting itself as a spa hotel, professionalism, courtesy, and respect should be standard, and unfortunately they weren’t. The Saturday evening and Sunday receptionists were polite and professional, which made the treatment we got during Saturday afternoon check-in stand out even more. Before we arrived, I emailed to arrange cava, chocolates, and seasonal fruit in the room as a surprise for my boyfriend’s 40th birthday. I specifically asked to pay beforehand so I wouldn’t have to pay at reception in front of him. The hotel never replied. When we checked in on Saturday afternoon, the receptionist was unfriendly, dismissive, and disrespectful. Her manner changed noticeably when she realized I didn’t speak Swedish and needed to use English. She then seemed impatient and cold, looked us up and down, and made the interaction uncomfortable. At one point she raised her voice and said, “wait a minute, I’m not finished talking to you”. That’s completely inappropriate in hospitality. English is normal in an international, touristy country like Sweden, especially at a spa hotel, and guests shouldn’t be treated badly for speaking it. Despite my earlier request, I was told at reception, in front of my boyfriend, that I had to pay 800 SEK for the cava, chocolates, and fruit. The surprise was ruined, and there was no discretion, empathy, or professional handling of the situation. When we finally got to the room, the “special arrangement” was underwhelming for 800 SEK: a few slices of melon, three very basic chocolates, a very low-end cava presented as champagne, and two mismatched champagne glasses, one of them dirty.
