I’d warmly recommend this hotel in Kalmar, and not just because the price is comparatively low. The staff are competent, helpful and upbeat, and access to a pool and sauna in the relaxation area is included. The room is a little cramped. Getting between the desk, bathroom and door means squeezing around the bed, which is inconvenient, but that’s my only complaint.

The rooms were dirty and outdated, and room service didn’t clean ours at all, even though we left the note on the door. During the Ironman period we paid around 15,000 kr for four nights, which felt extortionate. When I asked for toothpaste and a toothbrush, they wanted to charge 25 kr. Overpriced and a waste of money.

The staff were good, and so was breakfast. The rooms are quite basic, with dark bedding that made it hard to tell whether it was clean. We visited in summer and the room got very hot in the morning, a common problem in Scandinavia.

A great stay for the price, with excellent value. The hotel couldn’t add SJ Prio points, even though I’d booked through First’s own website.
