Katterjokk Apartments

The porch has an awesome view, and having a sauna and supermarket connected to the place is a real plus. The lift takes a bit of walking to reach, but that wasn’t a problem for us. You can ski to the apartment if you build a jump over the train tracks, though that’s only for advanced riders. :p

It’s right by road E10, just a few hundred metres from Katterjåkk train station, so the restaurant’s easy to get to. The menu’s small but varied, and the dishes are reasonably priced. I’ve always been happy with the food and service. There’s also a decent drinks selection, good coffee and nice views. I’d happily recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.

I came in late September, on the 27th. It was a useful place to sleep in autumn, especially at night, though it felt like a get-through hotel or apartment. In Sweden, as in Norway, everything seemed to close at 8 on weekdays, and on Sundays it was hard to find markets, shops, malls, pharmacies or some restaurants open. The restaurant here had great service and amazing people working there. The real highlight, though, was the northern lights. I’d taken a tour in Tromsø, but here they were fantastic, right in front of our window for a full half and hour, glowing green and purplish. I’d definitely come back just to see that show again.

It was pretty much what you’d expect from a roadside diner. I had the Angus burger, which seemed to be made with a frozen patty and didn’t come close to justifying the steep price. At 179 SEK without a drink, I’d expect a better burger.
