First Camp Åhus

The little terrace in front of the cottage was a nice spot to cook and eat, and the camp shop had snacks, drinks and other camping supplies. We stayed at First Camp Åhus on my first trip to Kristianstad. The cottage suited two people well, with a clean bathroom and the basic things we needed for cooking. There are several beaches nearby, around a 7-10 minute walk away.

The staff were friendly, even when I pointed out how high the fee was. I paid 600 SEK for one night at the end of July, just for myself, my bike and a small tent. The camping itself was only mediocre, so that felt outrageous. It was by far the most expensive stop on my bikepacking holiday. Camping prices elsewhere on the trip ranged from 150 SEK to 400 SEK.

The staff were friendly, and the site was clean, though very busy. We seriously thought about moving on. Our online booking was for a serviced pitch, but when we arrived there was electricity and no water. Seasonal pitches overflowed into an already crowded site, leaving nowhere to park their cars. The shop had a very small selection, the playground was poor, and the restaurant offered very little.

We booked an expensive cabin near the sea hoping for a quiet holiday with small children. The location was lovely during the day, but on six of our seven nights the restaurant and campsite had live music from 8 until 10, sometimes nearly 11. It was bad music, and the bass was loud everywhere, impossible to ignore when trying to put a child to bed or get an early night ourselves. The campsite itself honestly wasn’t too bad. The worst part was that nobody would take responsibility, and there was no boss to speak with. Unfortunately, not a great experience.
