The cabin was lovely and newly built last year, and we had a great time in it. Still, it felt very expensive for a cabin at a campsite. The restaurant was a letdown too: both the pizza and the buffet were really bad. We wouldn’t book a table in the tent, which wasn’t a nice place to sit. It might be fine for the mini disco, then have dinner elsewhere in the restaurant. The pool water was cold, especially compared with Sommarland, where it’s warmer. The shop was handy, and it was nice to pick up freshly baked bread each morning.

The lakeshore is beautiful, and there are playgrounds, minigolf and the attraction park right beside the campsite. In July, though, the place gets very crowded. Some basic things are missing, like a towel hook in the shower, and the kitchen is tiny and sparse, with three stoves, two sinks and a microwave in about 6 m2. It was okay, but this wouldn’t be high on our list for the kind of camping we like.

We stayed in the Glamping tent by the waterfront and had beautiful views across Lake Siljan. It’s a lovely place to be out in nature, and the young staff were helpful and clearly tried their best. When I mentioned that our tent’s umbrella was broken, they brought a replacement within two hours, which was impressive for such a big camp. The most memorable help came when our taxi failed to arrive: a team member drove us to the station in her own car so we wouldn’t miss the train to Stockholm. She wouldn’t accept money or even my offer to buy her takeaway lunch. I didn’t think to ask her name, but I’m sure her teammates know who she is. Stay at Leksand Resort if you want nature and good service, the Swedish way.

Everything felt fresh and clean, from the house when we arrived to the pool and the rest of the grounds. The natural setting is beautiful, with lots of lovely spots. Leksand playground cost 465 kr per person, but it was worth it since the rides and activities were included once inside. The zip-line cost extra. It’s about three hours from Stockholm, Sweden, and I’d recommend a visit.

There was plenty to keep the kids busy, with play areas, a pool, a long slide, a restaurant, a kiosk with a grill, and live shows a few evenings each week. They’ve had a great time running around, and we haven’t needed to leave the campsite much. There’s loads of room for caravans, camper vans and big tents, too. Our one disappointment was the mini golf: the two courses advertised turned out to be one 18-hole course split into two themes. Still, it’s a great spot for adults and kids.
