Grand Hotel - Lund

The hotel has a royal, grand feel, with traditional style and all the essentials. It’s furnished in a cozy, warm, clean way, and I loved the restaurant’s decor and atmosphere. Reception staff were friendly and helpful.

For a business trip, the location was handy, very close to the station and the ica supermarket. Staff were really friendly, and breakfast had a few nice options. Still, the price felt too high for what you get, and the rooms need a serious renovation. My room was tiny and old-fashioned. The TV was the smallest I’ve seen, and must have been 20 years old. The interior felt tired and worn. A classic look can still be maintained, but this place didn’t feel that way. The soap hadn’t been refilled and smelled weird.

We had Christmas dinner here, and it was a pretty mediocre experience. The hotel’s dated look has some charm, and the food was good, but the rich buffet felt more like a spread of starters to me. For what it offered, it was completely overpriced, though we should have known that beforehand. There was hardly any Christmas decor beyond a nice tree in the foyer, and non-alcoholic drinks were very limited. They also put two bottles of wine on our bill when we’d only had two glasses. It took an escalation to get it corrected. We got the money back, but there wasn’t much apology, and nobody seemed to consider that the credit card machine had calculated an inflated tip as a percentage.

The seafood buffet itself was good quality and well prepared. We’d been looking forward to a special family evening and had booked the restaurant, noting that we’d bring our two very small children. We assumed, perhaps wrongly, that we could order something simple for them since they wouldn’t eat the buffet. The arrival spoiled the evening. Instead of politely clarifying things, the staff, especially the person in charge, were dismissive and rude. They insisted on charging the full buffet price of 1500 sek per child, regardless of their age or how little they might eat. There was no empathy, just a stern lecture that we should have read the terms and conditions. We understand that policies exist, but respectful communication and a little flexibility would have mattered. We rarely eat out as a family, and this was meant to be a treat. The poor customer service left us disappointed, and we won’t return.
