Best Western Malmö Arena Hotel

The shower and toilet area is my main gripe. It’s cramped, water splashes everywhere, and it can feel uncomfortable if you’re a larger person. Most rooms are small and have two single beds. My view into the second floor courtyard wasn’t special, but it wasn’t bad either. The hotel is almost as close to the train station as the other Hyllie option. The breakfast buffet is a little smaller, but having breakfast on the arena club level is pretty cool, especially with the lights on while they’re caring for the ice.

The staff were very polite and friendly, which I appreciated. The rest of our first trip to Sweden, in the beautiful city of Malmö, fell short of what we expected from a four-star hotel. We paid nearly €300 for one night, yet the room wasn’t properly clean, and the bathroom and toilet felt more like a camping site than a hotel. Breakfast was a big disappointment too. Some dishes had an unpleasant odor, and the quality overall was far below what I’d expect from a hotel in this category.

We were very satisfied with our stay. The hotel is right by a large shopping center, exhibition hall, and arena, close to the train station, and only a short drive from Copenhagen. Staff were friendly and helpful, including with bike rentals. There’s a restaurant and a fantastic Skybar with stunning views. Our family room had a clever wall-mounted bunk bed that worked perfectly for us, plus a nice view. The bathroom was small but functional, and the blackout curtains helped us sleep well. The beds were among the best I’ve experienced in a hotel. Breakfast was fine, though not quite top-notch. Well done, Best Western.

The young woman at reception was the one bright spot. She was kind, professional, and empathetic, and really tried to make things easier for us. The rest of our stay was full of disappointments for a hotel sold as a four-star property in Sweden. There was dust and hair on the floor, dirty windows, and dust in the bathroom when we arrived. We asked for the room to be cleaned, but several hours later it was still dirty, with cleaning cloths left on the floor. The shower hose was broken and sprayed water everywhere, including over my clothes. We were traveling with a small baby, which made this especially frustrating. When I asked what could be done, they offered a public shower in the sauna area. That was completely inappropriate for a family with a baby. Breakfast was very poor. Everything seemed to come from packages or be thawed from frozen, with nothing fresh or homemade. When I asked whether the eggs were organic, I was told, “No, organic is too expensive.” That felt unprofessional and out of place for a hotel of this rating. The hotel didn’t meet basic expectations for cleanliness, service, or hospitality. I hope management takes these problems seriously.
