The rooms have an older look that suits the hotel, and the bed was comfortable. I liked the big pillows too, they were easy to shape just right. Breakfast was very good, and the dining room felt comfortable. The price was fair for the area, and the staff were really friendly. I’ll stay here again next time I’m in Mariestad.

We only stopped for the night while traveling south from the North, and the hotel turned out better than we expected. The room was huge and gorgeous, the breakfast delicious, and the staff great.

The dining room closes as soon as the staff finish for the day, so there’s nowhere to get even a glass of water or a cup of tea or coffee in the evening. Breakfast was odd too: the scrambled eggs had shrimp mixed in, and both yoghurt choices were sweet vanilla. I’d have preferred plain eggs and natural yoghurt. The beds were comfortable, but there was a steady noise from an air valve outlet all night, so bring earplugs. For what it costs, this felt like a very average hotel.

Mariestad makes for a lovely, relaxing getaway, and the hotel is close to both the lake and shopping. We had a beautiful view of the city from the window. Alissa at reception was kind and very helpful. Such a cute place!
