Munken Hotell & Konferens

The people working there were all very nice, whether at reception, breakfast, or housekeeping. The breakfast was well stocked, though the coffee pot ran out once and another guest had to ring the bell. The room itself was spacious but basic, and we had one facing the parking lot, which seemed preferable to one facing the busy road. We didn't hear anything from outside, at least in the breakfast room it was well insulated. What stood out most was how spotless everything was when we arrived. That kind of cleanliness takes real effort from the owners and staff, and it's what I expect from a hotel. Other places could learn from it. For us, that alone earned five stars. Parking was free, and in summer the nights cost about half what we saw around Kalmar. The 100 km round trip to Kalmar was worth it, and it saved us from the hassle of looking for parking downtown, which can be difficult for foreigners.

The staff were kind, and I liked how clean my room was. Flexible check-in was helpful, and dinner, the vegetarian schnitzel, was good. Sleep was a problem in my first room because of a low-frequency noise. Maybe it came from some kind of boiler room in the corridor. My partner and I switched rooms because I couldn't tolerate it. It felt as if my head was shaking, and quiet surroundings matter most to me for a good night's sleep. Breakfast tasted good, but the serving area was so narrow that it was hard to keep distance. The pancakes were flavorless, too, and breakfast only ran until 09:30, which feels too early for a summer holiday.

My company arranged the booking, and they had told me there would be a small fridge in the room. The self-service check-in was easy, but there was no staff on site at night. I arrived around 11 pm, picked up my key from the self-service box, and found no fridge. I called the contact number. He asked whether my food could be kept until morning, then passed to the breakfast staff for their fridge. They would look for a solution while I was at work. When I got back, I was surprised to find a small fridge in my room, complete with a key. That kind of service really impressed me 👌🏾

The staff were amazing, and the hotel was lovely. My room was very comfortable, and breakfast had a really good selection.
