You can also visit the motor museum attached to the hotel as a guest, and it has some great exhibits. The staff were all lovely, with friendly service. It’s a charming older hotel in a great spot by Lake Vättern and the Göta canal.

Classic car fans couldn’t ask for a better hotel. You pass through part of the adjacent motorist museum on your way to the rooms, and the reception greets you with a hint of engine oil and a few exhibits. The whole place has a neat, tidy, nostalgic feel, with a picturesque rustic look and a very spacious room. Even if cars aren’t your thing, it’s still a pleasant place to stay.

The service is somewhat limited because of Covid-19, but the staff are still very pleasant and friendly, as you’d expect in Sweden. The location is excellent, right by the water and a short walk from the city center. The room is small but cozy. There’s a fantastic collection of old radios, 90s mobile phones, and many old cars that you can visit for free, which is worth seeing on its own. I’ll certainly stay here again if I’m back in Motala.

We only came in for a beer, but staff got chatting with my friend and me and talked us into staying for lunch. That turned out to be a good call. There were meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes, along with plenty of salads and vegetables. The chef spoke with us, and you could tell he cared about the food. The hotel is near the water, with the entrance to a nostalgia museum inside and the motor museum next door. My main complaint is the rain, which I can hardly blame the hotel for. I didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t say much about the rooms.
