Norrtälje Camping

A quiet place that works well for one night. Registration is self-service, and the toilets, shower and kitchen were clean. There’s freezer and fridge storage too. It was rather expensive at 430 SEK.

During our 2018 Scandinavian bicycle trip, my family and I stayed at this campsite among about a dozen others. It covers an enormous area, so it never felt crowded. Still, I didn’t find anything special about it. It’s simply somewhere to spend the night.

It’s decent enough, with showers, a kitchen and other amenities that make a stay comfortable. If you need a shower, want access to big stores, and still want to sleep in a tent for under €20, it’s definitely worth it. But this feels more like an RV parking lot with grass than a proper campsite. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re after somewhere scenic or remote. You’ll hear cars and city noise, especially on a Friday, though that’s not really their fault.

It’s within walking distance of a nice town and lake, but the sanitary facilities were terrible. The schedule on the wall says the toilets and showers are cleaned once a month, and they look like it. Showers are free, but too dirty to use. The receptionist barely spoke English, and the stay was very expensive per night.
