Clarion Hotel Grand Östersund

A comfortable hotel for a reasonable price, with friendly staff and a really good restaurant. I enjoyed both dinner and breakfast there. They gave me a twin room even though I'd requested a double, and there were no slippers. I'd suggest the fourth floor if you'd like a view.

There are plenty of small shops and restaurants nearby, so we didn't need to drive to find somewhere to eat. The staff were welcoming, and breakfast was good. I do want to thank EMMA, who handled our room problem calmly and professionally. The extra sofa bed hadn't been cleaned before we arrived. There was hair on it and it hadn't been vacuumed, though it should have had clean sheets and been ready for us. I asked the receptionist for help before we went out to dinner. When we came back, it still hadn't been sorted, so I called reception. They offered to move us, but we had too many things to transfer, so I asked if they could clean the sofa bed instead. My husband and child were swimming then. EMMA came with extra towels and sheets, vacuumed the sofa bed, and I held up the large pillows so she could clean properly. I put the sheets on afterward. We paid a fair price and expected the room to be clean and comfortable, so that was disappointing. EMMA gave us very good service, though, and the hotel is lucky to have her.

There's a small relaxation area with a pool, sauna, and gym, plus access to a gym in town if you want to train seriously. Rooms are spacious, with good storage and bathrooms of a good size. The indoor parking behind the hotel costs extra, but can be useful when winter temperatures often drop below -30 degrees. There's a local-food restaurant and bar on site. In central Östersund, the hotel is close to shops, restaurants, and bars, about a 15-minute drive from OSD airport and no more than 10 minutes from the nearest ski centre. A good base for exploring town and the surrounding area, or for smaller downhill skiing.

The food is good, and the price feels fair for what you get. Everyone was attentive and ready to help. A special congratulations to the receptionist who gave me the best service, so professional and welcoming. I don't know his name, but I was really happy with his hospitality. He was a real example of customer service.
