Wärdshuset Gammel Tammen

We had dinner in a beautiful building. The place looked clean and the service was good, but the menu was extremely limited. There weren’t any salads, and all the main courses seemed to be the same dish with different toppings. The portions were tiny too. We paid 380 sek for the Kronhjort dish and got two bites with some potato purée. Even dessert was small, though it was probably the part we enjoyed most. They seated all the customers in one small room while the rest of the place sat empty, so the atmosphere was unnecessarily loud.

This is about the restaurant at Wardshuset Gammel Tammal. I’ve had lunch there three times over seven years. It was never good, but it’s gone downhill. Most recently I ordered the “lasagna,” which was worse than Lidl frozen lasagna. It came with a balsamic vinegar salad on top. The whole thing was too sweet and too sour, with no garlic or other spices. The dining room was cold too. Go to the pizza place, it’s 10 times better.

It’s a shame, because everything around the place is really nice. But the price communication was bad: we ended up paying almost double the price we’d been told, and the final cost was almost as high as a luxury hotel in Stockholm. Dinner was okay, but the breakfast food was out of date.

A beautiful setting with lovely buildings and a great atmosphere. The chef really cares about the guests, and the food is fantastic. My favourite place to go with family for special occasions.
