Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden

The breakfast was wonderful, and the service felt especially warm. One waitress, Diana, welcomed us with a big smile and paid attention to the little things, which made us feel at home. The hotel is a beautiful old building right by the sea. Our room was simple but clean. We were surprised to find construction work underway during our visit.

Breakfast was good, and we were happy with it. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, doing their best in the circumstances. The outdoor restaurant staff were less welcoming when we came in the evening to buy a Coke, since there was nowhere else to get one. It would help to have drinks for sale at reception at any time if restaurant staff don't want to be interrupted for them. The spa cost extra. The outdoor hot pool was open, which was nice, but construction was still going on all around it, with dust and packages everywhere. We were only told through Booking.com a couple of days before arrival that renovations were underway. We hadn't checked the hotel website. Our attic room was old, worn, and rather small, and the bed was uncomfortable. For two nights we paid 3,000-something Swedish crowns, so we expected a more comfortable room. We were very disappointed with its condition. The hotel is okay for now, though many parts are dated. It should be much better once renovations are finished next May 2026.

The hotel is being renovated, but the rooms are nice, with lovely views, and there's a heated pool outside. It's in a really nice area just outside Stockholm, with a few small islands that have restaurants. Amazing place.

The reception staff were friendly and even made sure we had the same rooms on our return, which was lovely. The renovation is badly needed, though they seem to be handling it without too much disturbance. The restaurants didn't inspire us much, and the food was expensive. We were pleased with our seaside rooms in one of the towers, with great views and comfy beds. The bathroom was less comfortable because of the high step into the bathtub. Book a sea view room. The archipelago location is amazing, about 45 minutes from downtown Stockholm. The train isn't running at the moment, and buses are covering the service instead. Free parking is a plus. All in all, the place reminded me of the movie ‘The Budapest Hotel’. Can recommend.
