Christos Bistro

The room had been recently renovated and was clean and neat, and I slept like a log. We were within walking distance of all of central Söderhamn. Breakfast was self-serve, with plenty of bread, cold cuts, eggs and more. We only stayed one night, and the service was great even though we arrived late. The owner was there himself.

I was very disappointed by how I was treated. I stay in hotels about 40 nights a year and have never had such a disappointing visit. Never again. Both rooms had dirty sheets. In the first bed there was curly hair, and the room was dusty. There was a TV, but it didn’t work. The staff were unsympathetic, and I had to change rooms, only to find dirty sheets again the next morning. There were no clear checkout instructions, and I couldn’t reach reception in the morning. I couldn’t leave the key in the room, so I had to put it in the door lock. In the end I went out through an emergency exit that had been propped ajar. Reception, cleaning and checkout instructions all need attention.

We went to Christos Bistro for dinner on a Thursday and left full and happy. Everyone in our group enjoyed the meal, and the welcome was very warm. We started with charcuterie and scampi, then had chicken skewers and flank steak. For dessert we tried sorbet and ice cream with berries. We’ll be back to try the pizzas.

The seating out back by the Söderhamn river is lovely, and the owner is incredibly nice. I’ve only had one beer there so far, but I’ll be back for more.
