Hemavans Högfjällshotell

The hotel has a lot going for it: a remote mountain setting, lovely views, really friendly staff, meals that were better than average compared with other mountain hotels I’ve visited, and a vintage feel I liked. The rest of the place was very nice, but my room felt too expensive for its condition and needs updating before I’d come back. Sleep can be a gamble if other guests party in their rooms. The walls and doors barely block any sound, so noise can wreck your night if you’re unlucky.

We spent one night here over Easter weekend and couldn’t get a decent sleep. The whole hotel was partying, with loud music and cheering through the night. Even after the official party ended, people carried on in the parking lot, with revving engines and car subwoofers. There’s also a sauna included, but it’s in a basement corridor that felt more like a prison than a sauna area. I wouldn’t come here for a quiet, restful stay.

Högfjällshotell has the ski setup you’d expect, including ski storage and ski-in, ski-out access, plus a restaurant, bar, and comfortable lobby areas. The rooms are small, and some have had partial renovations. The building is starting to show its age and could use some updating.

This hotel has a really awful bar. They don’t tell you when the last round can be ordered, so I wouldn’t recommend going there.
