Tärnaby Fjällhotell

We had a weekend package and the included food tasted excellent. The hotel has lovely views and sits right by a lake, which we dipped into before warming up in the third-floor sauna. If you're here for a winter break, the ski lifts are very close. I'd definitely recommend a visit.

The breakfast was nice, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend staying here. Our room was cold, the ventilation was noisy, and the Wi-Fi didn't work in the wing. A couple of lamps were broken, and the drying room didn't dry anything. It was generally hard to find a receptionist, and one staff member wouldn't lend us a shovel to clear snow around our car. The sauna was nice, though it was cold on one of the days. I wouldn't come back.

The hotel is by a lake, just below a ski lift, but arriving wasn't great. The rough car park had big pools of water, and the entrance is up a long flight of uneven steps. Check-in went fine and I got a room key. The lift is halfway along the corridor and in the stairwell rather than by the lobby. It felt odd and exposed to the shaft, so you have to be careful, and you need to keep the button pressed for it to move. My room had twin beds instead of the double the hotel had confirmed, so I went back to reception and had it changed. The room itself was very basic and seemed due for an update. The tired wet-room bathroom got wet all over when I showered. I didn't enjoy the stay much. The hotel felt short on atmosphere, as if summer had ended and it was just waiting for snow. There was no background music in the restaurant in the evening or morning, so people ended up talking in whispers. Breakfast seemed poor, with few choices. It may have been because I stayed between summer and ski season, when there were very few guests. At checkout I had to pay for our dinner. I was leaving Sweden for Norway and wanted to use my cash. They said cash was fine, but they had no change, so I had to pay extra unless I had the exact amount.

Stefan's food in the restaurant was delicious, and Ricard at the P3 ski shop was wonderful. The staff were kind, friendly, and helpful, especially Brigitta. It's close to the ski lifts, and the hotel was a warm place to spend time in the depths of winter. We hope to come back in spring or summer.
