Scandic Laholmen Hotel

We stayed two nights with our dog. At 2 a.m. on the first night, an alarm in the bathroom went off. The night receptionist tried to help, but couldn't, because maintenance needed to work on the roof. The hotel was full, so we had to stay in the room and were given earplugs. In the morning we moved to another room and received generous compensation. You can tell guest satisfaction matters to this hotel. The rooms were nice, and the balcony in our second room got the evening sun, which was perfect. Breakfast was good and had plenty of choices for different preferences. Someone even cooked eggs for guests. Thank you.

This hotel gave us a real holiday feeling. The room was beautiful, with proper beds for the kids instead of a sofa bed, and we appreciated having a fridge. The terrace overlooking the water has lovely seating and live music. Try the spicy margherita cocktail, it's amazing! The location is perfect. There's a kallbadhus behind the hotel, free to use and separate from the hotel. We only noticed it as we were leaving. Boats depart from around the corner if you want to take a trip. The only thing to improve is keeping plates available in the breakfast room. They ran out a few times, and the staff had to work hard to sort it out.

The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were really pleasant. But the room was hot with no air conditioning. Opening the window helped, though the nightlife outside was very loud. We also had a frustrating start: the hotel parking was full, so we left the car about a kilometre away and walked back with our luggage. Parking there was free, at least. In the bathroom, the tissues for your face were placed right above the toilet, where flushing would send water onto them. That felt very unhygienic. There was soap in the conditioner dispenser too, for some reason. The price seemed about twice what similar hotels elsewhere charge, and the sea view was the only thing that justified it. If you want that view and easy access to Strömstad and don't mind paying a fortune, it could work. Otherwise, most alternatives would be better.

I always love going there. The food is great, and the place has such a lovely atmosphere.
